Dance Classes:

Acro & Tumble

Tumbling - Basic gymnastic skills taught by a professional tumbling, cheer and dance instructor.  Cartwheels, back walkovers and more taught for beginning and intermediate levels of children.

Acrobatics – Class geared for teens to improve gymnastics skills for dancers.  Beginning to advanced 'tricks' taught by a professional tumbling, cheer and dance instructor. 

Ballroom

Smooth and Latin Ballroom – Basic concepts of footwork and partnering are taught. This class focuses on smooth and fast styles for beginners, such as the Tango, Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha & East Coast Swing.  Come solo or with a partner.

Ballet

 

Beginning Ballet – Ages 6-8. For the ballet lovers, this hour long class is a fun way to learn the basics.

Advanced Beginning Ballet - Ages 7-10. A slightly more advanced class for those who are more serious about learning the ballet technique.

Beginning & Intermediate Lyrical – Ages 10+. For serious lyrical lovers, this class focuses on the beautiful artform of lyrical (which is a mix of ballet and jazz).



Ballet/Tap Combination

Intro to Dance - For ages 3 & 4. This 45 minute class is the perfect combination of ballet and tap to get the little ones moving.

Ballet/Tap Combo Level 1 – For ages 4-6. An hour long class learning the basics of ballet and tap techniques.

Ballet/Tap Combo Level 2 – For ages 6-8. An hour long class focused on a deeper understanding of the basic techniques of ballet and tap.


Bellydancing

Beginning Bellydancing – Ages 18 +. A unique class for those interested in trying something new. A great way to stay in shape while still having fun!



Cheer Team and Dance Team

Cheerleading – by audition only. The cheer team works on cheer technique and choreography, (no stunt work,) and performs multiple times per year at CSULB, UCI, Cerritos Performing Arts and more.

Dance Team - by audition only. This team is choreography only and performs at multiple venues throughout So. Cal, including Disneyland, Knotts, CSULB and more. Intermediate level students only who are enrolled in a minimum of 2 classes per week at Kick It Up.

 

 

 


Hip Hop

Bop n’ Hip Hop – Ages 4 & 5. An upbeat, fun-filled, energetic 30 minute class for youngsters who want to move.

Beginning Hip Hop – Ages 5-8. This active, hour long class is anything but boring. A great class for kids who need a place to use their never ending energy.

Advanced Beginning Hip Hop – Ages 7-10. It’s all about having fun in this energetic, hour long class. Perfect for kids who like to get their groove on.

Intermediate Hip Hop – Ages 9-12. A more advanced hip hop class involving timing, rhythm, and musicality.

Advanced Hip Hop - Ages 11 - 18. The most advance hip hop class we offer, incorporating detailed choreography and tricks from industry professionals.


Hula

Intro to Hula – Ages 3-7. Hula is a dance form that allows a beginner to look and feel like a dancer from the earliest classes. Each dance builds upon the previous. This half hour classes is basic Hula hand and footwork for the little ones.

Beginning Hula – Ages 8-11. This hour long class teaches the basic concepts of hand and footwork.

Beginning Hula – Ages 12+. This hour long class teaches the basic concepts of hand and footwork

Intermediate Hula – Ages 12+. Hands and footwork are taught, but the learning is in the dancer’s inhabiting the story they are telling.
 


Jazz

Beginning and Adv. Beginning Jazz – Ages 6 - 10. An upbeat, fun class with elements of ballet technique. For dancers who like to move.

Intermediate & Advanced Jazz – Ages 10+. A slightly more advanced class for those who have a basic knowledge of jazz skills.

Jazz Funk - Ages 12+. A blend of hip hop and jazz at an adv. beginning level.

 


 

Musical Theatre

Beginning Musical Theatre - Ages 5-7.  This 45 minute class focuses on the three fundamentals of stage work... singing, dancing and acting... while making it fun!

Beginning Musical Theatre - Ages 8-11.  This hour long class is designed to help the student become a "triple threat", with acting, singing and dancing.  Class includes audition preparation, improvisational theater, and exciting dance routines fit for the Broadway Stage!

Broadway Club - Ages 8+.  This hour long class is designed to orient students to Broadway productions, from beginning to end.  Focus is on acting skills and professionalism in a theatre environment.  (Runs in a series of 8 weeks.  Call to find out start dates)


Salsa

Kids Salsa Ages 7-11. This hour long, upbeat class keeps kids on their toes with the fast-paced footwork and high energy that salsa dance can be!  Great for boys and girls!

Beginning Salsa – Ages 12 - 18. A beginning class for those interested in learning the basics of club salsa rhythms, footwork patterns and turns.  (Having a partner is not necessary)

Intermediate Salsa – Ages 12  - 18. A more in depth class focusing on musicality, choreography, parterning, tricks and turns.  (Having a partner is not necessary)

Zumba  Dance Fitnesss - Ditch the routine, JOIN THE PARTY! Join the millions of people that have decided having fun and working out are not mutually exclusive. Inspired by traditional cumbia, salsa, samba and merengue steps combined with pulsating latin rhythms, Zumba is a Dance Fitness program that moves for one hour. The goal of ZumbaŽ is “to move fast and have fun” . . join the party at Kick It Up today!


Tap

Beginning & Advanced Beginning Tap - Ages 6-13. An fun hour long class that focuses on basic tap rhythm technique.

Intermediate & Advanced Tap – Ages 10-18. A more advanced rhythm tap class, with work on beats, timing and technique, as well as basic Broadway tap technique.

Mixed Levels Adult Tap – Ages 13 +. A fun hour long class focusing on basic tap rhythm technique.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fitness Classes:

Strength Training

Balls & Bar Workout – 1st 30-minutes of class works upper body and 2nd 30-minutes lower body.   Working with dumbbells, weighted body bars, resist-a-balls and more, this strength training class fires up all the muscles of the body. There is a Stretch & Ab segment at the end of class.

Power & Push Workout – (Boot Camp) Be ready for anything in this one-hour action packed class. Working with steps, dumbbells, weighted body bars, tubing, resist-a-balls and more, this strength and cardio interval training class fires up all the muscles of the body and allows you to burn calories. There is a stretch & ab segment at the end of class.

Total Body Bar Workout - A fast paced 60-minute total body workout using dumbbells & weighted body bars . . . this class moves fast! Designed to  tone and strengthen muscles in the upper body & lower body includes exercises for the shoulder, back, biceps, triceps, chest, hamstrings, quads and abs/lower back. Make sure to bring a water body and towel for this class.  All levels are welcome and each muscle group is worked in four minutes segments.

Body Bar Chest Press

Core Fusion- A 60-minute fitness strength class which blends fitness moves, tubing, resist-a-ball & Yoga poses with an emphasis on the core muscles of the body.  Learn how to walk tall, gain greater muscle tone and feel awesome when you are done.  This class offers a stretch component too.  Please bring a YOGA mat to class.

Upper Cuts Interval - A fast paced 30-minute upper body workout using dumbbells, weighted body bars and cardio intervals . . . this class moves fast! Designed to burn calories, tone and strengthen muscles in the upper body includes exercises for the shoulder, back, biceps, triceps and chest. The cardio intervals are done on the Spinning Bike or Step.

Pain in the Tush - Lower Cuts- An intense 30-minute lower body workout using dumbbells, tubing, stretch bands and weighted body bars. Designed to fire up all the muscles of the lower body including legs, gluts and abs.

Awesome Abs- A 30-minute express fitness that blends Yoga, Pilates and Fitness into a workout. Learn to tone and firm your “abs” or “core” as well as strengthening the lower back. This class can be taken on its own or after the Upper Cuts and or Lower Cuts classes.

Women on Weights- A 60-minute workout which meets 2 times per week.  The program is designed to teach basic workout formats including strength and resistance training, flexibility and core training, cardio drills and intervals with stretch and relaxation at the end of each class.  This is a great program to get you going to a new fitness commitment.  We offer both a beginning and advanced night program.

GLAMM - Girls Lifting Weights and Making Muscles -  This class is a 60-minute workout.  The program is designed to teach basic workout formats including strength and resistance training, flexibility and core training, cardio drills and intervals with stretch and relaxation at the end of each class. Program designed for teen girls ages 12 and up.  Some classes might include discussion of nutrition and skincare with makeup application.


Cardiovascular Training

Cardio Fusion Training & Amp'd Abs/PIYO- A 60-minute action packed class using low impact aerobic moves to get your body moving. Incorporating low impact movement, kick boxing jabs & upper cuts and more. You’ll sweat like never before. Class includes an “abs” portion at the end of the cardio segment.  Use a heart rate monitor to make sure you are in your fat burning ranges!  The first 45 minutes of class is Cardio and there is a 15 minute segment for Amp'd Abs or PIYO.
Spinning

Cardio Spinning  & Strength Interval Training -
A 60-minute format which combines 3-5 minute cardio intervals on the Johnny G. Spinning bike with strength training using either dumbbells and body bars to train the upper body muscles for  endurance and tone.  Be prepared to sweat bring water and a towel with you.

Zumba  Dance Fitnesss - Ditch the routine, JOIN THE PARTY! Join the millions of people that have decided having fun and working out are not mutually exclusive. Inspired by traditional cumbia, salsa, samba and merengue steps combined with pulsating Latin rhythms, Zumba is a dance fitness program that moves for one hour. Spinning™ - A 60-minute Indoor Cycling Training Class, which includes heart rate training. Heart rate monitors are provided as well as gel seats for comfort. It is highly recommended you attend an “Intro to Spinning” prior to taking a full 60-minute class. You can burn between 500 – 800 calories in one class! Bring your towel and water and be prepared to sweat.

Beg. Spinning™ - A 30-minute Indoor Cycling Training Class, which includes heart rate training. Heart rate monitors are provided as well as gel seats for comfort. It is highly recommended you attend an “Intro to Spinning” prior to taking a 30-minute class. Bring your towel and water and be prepared to have fun.

Intro to Spinning™ - A 30-minute Indoor Cycling Basic’s Class. Members will learn the components of the Spinning Bike as well as the proper biomechanics to ride the bike. 15 minutes of lecture and a 15-minute ride are part of the education process before taking the 60-minute class.

Fit & Happy: No-Fuss Nutrition for Busy People -12-Week Eating Program which meets once a week for one hour at the Kick It Up Studio.  Included in this Program is a Fitness Assessment (measuring body fat and measurements of the waist, bust, thighs, hips & arms).  Fitness & Nutrition Tips from Dr. Mandy Rhodes who will be leading the Program and a online newsletter, email access to instructors teaching the class and one free SO. BAY FIT CAMP CLASS.  The program will teach you what eating healthy is all about. Learn the difference between Complex Carbohydrates, Simple Carbohydrates, Protein & Fat. Also, you'll be taught how to make decisions on what to eat before a workout or what to snack on during the afternoon when  your energy is low.  Begins Summer 2009.

Fitness Assessment - A 50-60-minute session with a certified personal trainer to assess your fitness level. Session includes weigh in, measure your body composition, Body Fat %, measure your hips, thighs, arms, waist and bust!  Learn creative ideas to help you change your eating habits. * by appointment only (562) 430-1812.

 

Yoga Fitness and more - Yoga
A 60-minute format with a Hatha Yoga Flow.  This class is designed to help you gain better flexibility as well as tone & strengthen  your body. The traditional postures are modified to accommodate any injury or disability you might have!  Please bring your Yoga Mat to this class! Coming Summer 2009

Zen Abs & Stretch and Relax - A 60-minute class that blends Stretching with bands with Yoga and Pilates  Poses along with working your "abs".  Stretch bands are provided. Candles and Zen music make this a magical class. Your body will feel a sense of strength and calmness upon completion.  Please bring a Yoga Sticky Mat with you and be open to the allowing your body the benefits of flexibility training.

PIYO - A 60-minute class that blends Yoga, Pilates together. Candles and soft music make this a mind body class. Your body will feel a sense of strength and calmness upon completion. All levels are welcome to attend. Please bring a Yoga Mat with you to this class and be prepared to sweat this class moves at a fast pace. 

 


Kid Fitness (Ages 7 – 11)

Total Body Workout – A 60-minute action packed class. Kids will work with dumbbells, tubing, resist-a-balls, jump ropes, hula-hoops and more. The class has a warm up (10 minutes) a cardio segment (20 minutes) and strength segment (10 – 15 minutes) with Yoga/Stretch time at the end. All students will be tested every 6 weeks to determine their strength and flexibility as well as cardiovascular improvements!
