Dance Classes:

Ballroom

Basic concepts of footwork and partnering are taught. This class focuses on smooth and fast styles for beginners, such as the Tango, Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha & East Coast Swing.  Come solo or with a partner.

Ballet

Kick It Up uses a mixture of Vaganova, Cecchetti and R.A.D (Royal Academy of Dance) techniques so that children, teens and adults are well versed in different ballet styles and formats.  Classes include stretching, ballet barre, across the floor, center work and variations for classical ballets.  Students should wear pink ballet shoes, leotard of any color, tights/form fitting shorts/skirt, and hair pulled off of the face.

Ballet/Tap Combination

Combo classes ‘combine’ the best of both worlds – ballet and tap – for children to learn and have fun in class.  Ballet focuses on improving flexibility, grace and poise while tap helps to improve rhythm, timing and coordination.  In addition to basic steps, children also work on patterns and learn new routines.  Students should wear pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, leotard of any color, tights/leggings are optional, skirt/tutu is optional and hair pulled off of the face.

Bellydancing

Join us in learning this beautiful Middle Eastern Dance.  Most of the movements in belly dancing involve isolating different parts of the body (hips, shoulders, chest, stomach etc.). In much of bellydance there is a focus upon the core muscles of the body producing the movement rather than the external muscles of the body.  In addition to technique, students also learn traditional routines for in-class use only.  Not only is this a beautiful form of dance to learn, but it is an amazing workout!  Students should wear comfortable ‘fitness-like’ clothing.  Coin skirts are encouraged, although the instructor brings skirts that can be borrowed.

Cheer Team and Dance Team

The Kick It Up Dance & Cheer Teams perform during the Spring season at various locations throughout Southern California.  The style of the dance teams is performance jazz and we offer 3 levels based on age and ability:  Mini, Age 9+ and Age 12+.  Our Cheer team is a non-stunting team designed for students ages 7+.  Auditions are held each year in September and no one is turned away.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a genre of dance that utilizes the technique work of jazz, modern dance and ballet to guide dancers in unchoreographed movement. Although technique is employed throughout the class, it is not considered a classical or technique oriented class – it is conceptual style of dance that works with the technique of the dancers involved.  Students should wear  dance paws or foot undeez, forming fitting clothing, such as shorts, leggings, leotard or tank top, and hair should be pulled off of the face.
